Overview

"I Want To Be Something", despite being credited to Weezer, is actually a solo Rivers Cuomo acoustic demo from 2008.^[1] A song by the same title, recorded in 1998, is listed in the Catalog O' Riffs, though it is unknown if the two are the same song. The version of Hurley that leaked prior to its official release in 2010 included a version of "I Want to Be Something" approximately two seconds longer than that of the final release, opening with Cuomo saying "three-nine-four."

In 2020, another version of "I Want to Be Something" was released as part of the digital compilation Alone X: The Red-Raditude-Hurley Years. This version is largely identical to the version on Hurley except for the presence of electric guitar layered over the recording.
