Talk about making up for lost time. Only a year and a day after the release of 2001's long-delayed Green Album, L.A.'s Weezer returns full steam ahead with this edgier new disc. Maladroit is anything but, packed tightly with bouncing power-pop chords, a slew of metal riffs as seen through frontman Rivers Cuomo's thick Buddy Holly glasses and some of the happiest backing vocals you'll hear this year. And if you think another album this soon could mean too much Weezer, think again: nearly all of the songs clock in at less than three minutes, and the disc is over before you know it. Perfect pop fun for short attention spans.
