Template:Featured page header

From Weezerpedia

[edit] Template documentation

The featured page header template is meant to simplify the editing of featured content pages to make them more readily editable by less experienced Weezerpedia users. By entering information they already know, newer editors can create useful page infrastructure for more senior editors, learn the basics of editing, and contribute to one of our wiki's longest-running projects.

The template creates a navbox, marks a featured content page as "incomplete" or not, and adds (and removes!) relevant categories. It can be used for any featured content type (i.e. articles, images, videos, etc.), and is meant to sit neatly on top of any content-specific templates (i.e. Template:Featured video code).

Sample use

Here is the template as it currently appears on Weezerpedia:Featured video February 2023 as of that same month.

{{Template:Featured page header|year=2023|month=February|pagetype=video|edited=yes}}

Components

Featured content links

Three table cells are created at the top of the right justified navbox. These section isn't changed by any template parameters - it just provides links to relevant featured content pages and allows senior editors to navigate through featured content more quickly. Also included by default is one relevant category, which is determined by parameters: [[Category: Featured content month year]].

Expandable navbox

year and month parameters will help populate Template:Featured content nav, creating the expandable calendar box you see at far right.

Lede

The lede generated by this template reads: The following page holds the content that will be "transcluded" (i.e. sent over to) the Main Page as a featured pagetype for month year. For assistance with editing, please consult Help:Featured pagetype.

"edited" parameter

If the edited parameter is left blank, the template will display Template:Incomplete featured content. As of February 2023, Weezerpedia:Featured video May 2023 is currently "incomplete," (i.e. not edited yet), and its wikitext looks like this:

{{Template:Featured page header|year=2023|month=May|pagetype=video|edited=}}

Technically you don't have to include the "edited" parameter at all - if it is left out entirely the default setting is also to display Template:Incomplete featured content. This template includes Category:Incomplete featured content in it, giving us the ability to add and remove a category for this page just by adjusting a template parameter.

yes in "edited" parameter

Populating anything into the edited parameter will remove Template:Incomplete featured content entirely. You can technically enter anything in, but for clarity of editing for newer users, we ask that you simply input "yes." Of course, the edited parameter should be left blank by editors by default.
