Overview

"The Sound of Drums" features "Wiccan chants" sourced from poems. The chant "Air I Am" by Andras Corben Arthen is spoken over the song's guitar solo. The song's outro features an excerpt from the poem "Back to the River" by Abigail Spinner McBride. The chants were removed during production and reinstated shortly before the album's release.

The album's liner notes, as well as the song's official YouTube upload, mistakenly transcribe the lyric "On the mists of Avalon" as "On the myths of Babylon."

Multiple demos of "The Sound of Drums" were leaked online in December of 2022.
