Yahoo! Outloud website biography Author: Weezer(?) Date: c. January 2001 weezer is at an all time high. And as you made clear by buying up the tickets in such a hurry, you guys are ready to rock too! ... Last summer we started a small club tour, with the intention of warming up the band for a new album. We had a whole bunch of new songs we wanted to try out on the road, and we were so eager to get back to where we belong, rocking out for the fans. The shows went phenomenally well, and the response was unbelievable, with instant sellouts happening at every show. Then we got on the Warped Tour, and were shocked to find the crowds at this traditionally punk rock festival tour were ultra stoked on seeing the weez! What great fun that was. The tour started snowballing as the summer went on, and we started reserving longer and longer chunks of time for touring. Meanwhile we kept coming up with more and more new songs, making it difficult to figure out what should go on the album. Next up we did a 2 week tour over in Japan to an utterly insane fan response, and then did a full US tour in the fall, which promptly sold out in minutes. By this point we realized that all the touring was pushing the album back to a winter recording, which was just as well because all the new songs made it difficult to pick the tracks for the album. Finally in late October, tours behind us and full of energy and excitement, we started a 6 week process of rehearsals and demo-making, pairing down the song list to a manageable size. At the end of December we started recording, and all the preparation paid off, as we raced to finish the album before this, the Yahoo! Outloud tour gets underway. This tour kicks off what is going to be a great year for weezer fans, with shows around the globe and a NEW ALBUM, to be released in early spring.
