- August 1 - "In the Garage" and "Buddy Holly" are played live for the first time at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, CA. This is the last show with original member Jason Cropper.
- August 6 - Weezer practices at Cole Rehearsals, Hollywood for the forthcoming Blue Album sessions.
- August 7 - A farewell party is held at the Amherst House.
- August 8 - Weezer fly to New York City to record the Blue Album. The band stays in the Gramercy Park hotel while in New York.
- August 9 - Rehearsals for the Blue Album start at S.I.R. Studios in New York, with producer Ric Ocasek.
- August 10 - Rehearsals continue at S.I.R. Studios. Ric Ocasek videotapes this rehearsal, including "Only In Dreams".
- August 11 - Weezer record a demo of the potential songs at S.I.R. Studios on Ocasek's Akai 12-track recorder. "Lullaby for Wayne" and "I Swear It's True" from this session were later released on Dusty Gems & Raw Nuggets in 2004.
- August 12 - Rehearsals wrap up at S.I.R. Studios. The band take a break for a few days while gear is sent to Electric Lady Studios and set up by engineer Chris Shaw.
- August 16 - Recording for the Blue Album begins at Electric Lady Studios' Studio A. The basic track for "Undone - The Sweater Song" is recorded. At some point from August 16 to August 21, the basic track for "Only in Dreams" is also recorded.
- August 17 - Recording in Studio A continues, with the basic tracks for "No One Else", "Surf Wax America" and "The World Has Turned and Left Me Here".
- August 18 - The basic tracks for "My Name Is Jonas" and "In the Garage" are recorded in Studio A.
- August 20 - The basic tracks for "Mykel and Carli" and "Say It Ain't So" are recorded in Studio A. The recording of "Mykel and Carli" would later be released on Death to False Metal in 2010.
- August 21 - The basic tracks for "Holiday" and "Buddy Holly" are recorded in Studio A.
- August 23 - Weezer begin recording overdubs on the already recorded tracks in Studio B.
- August 24 - Further overdubs are recorded in Studio B.
- August 25 - Rivers Cuomo overdubs acoustic guitars in Studio A, while other overdubs are recorded in Studio B. These include the organ part on "Holiday".
- August 26 - Overdubs continue in Studio C.
- August 27 - More overdubs are recorded in Studio C, including guitars.
- August 29 - The band take a day off recording, while Karl Koch, Pat Finn and Patrick Wilson attend a show at Wetlands.
- August 31 - Vocals and piano on "Undone - The Sweater Song" are overdubbed in Studio B.
September
- September 4 - Overdubs continue in Studio C.
- September 5 - Overdubs continue in Studio B, where issues with Jason Cropper come to the forefront.
- September 6 - More overdubs are recorded in Studio B, which Jason doesn't attend. Jason likely didn't attend any further sessions.
- September 7 - Overdubs continue from then to September 11 in Studio B.
- September 10 - Karl Koch records a collage of samples for use on "Undone - The Sweater Song".
- September 11 - "Climax guitars" are overdubbed on "Only in Dreams", and the keys are overdubbed on "Buddy Holly".
- September 12 - Jason Cropper leaves Weezer and New York City. Matt Sharp leaves a voice message on guitarist Brian Bell's answering machine, Bell having left Carnival Art shortly before.
- September 13 - Matt calls Brian again, with Rivers Cuomo asking him to join Weezer. Chris Shaw prepares for mixing.
- September 14 - Brian Bell records an audition tape and FedExes it out to New York.
- September 15 - The band listens to the audition tape and Brian is flown out to New York.
- September 16 - Brian Bell arrives in New York.
- September 17 - Brian begins vocal and guitar practice in Electric Lady Studios' Studio B. Further practice takes place from September 17 to September 20.
- September 18 - Chris Shaw continues mixing in Studio B, while Karl Koch and Rivers attend a performance of Les Misérables.
- September 20 - It's determined that Brian will re-record Jason Cropper's backing vocals for the most part, while Rivers will re-record his guitar parts and some backing vocals.
- September 21 - Re-recording backing vocals begins in Studio B, continuing from then until September 24.
- September 24 - Rivers re-records Jason Cropper's guitar parts entirely in one take.
- September 27 - Mixing continues from then until September 30. Karl, Rivers, and Patrick Wilson attend a screening of Dazed and Confused.

- October 1 - Mixing continues at Electric Lady Studios in Studio B, from then until October 8.
- October 7 - Karl Koch and Rivers Cuomo attend a performance of Phantom of the Opera
- October 8 - Mixing wraps up. To celebrate, Ric Ocasek takes the group to a Blue Man Group at Astor Theatre, then a party at his house.
- October 9 - Karl Koch and Patrick Wilson return to Los Angeles.
- October 11 - Mastering begins at Sterling Sound, with George Marino and Rivers. It takes place from then until October 15.
- October 16 - Rivers returns to Los Angeles.
- October 21 - Matt Sharp and Brian Bell return to Los Angeles.

- November 1 - Due to rights issues with the samples on "Undone - The Sweater Song", Karl Koch, Matt Sharp and Mykel Allan recorded a new intro section at the Amherst House.
- November 2 - Rivers Cuomo flies back to New York City to re-master "Undone - The Sweater Song" with its new intro section.
- November 3 - The new intro section is added at Sterling Sound, and re-mastered by George Marino and Rivers.
- November 5 - Rivers returns to Los Angeles after a day off in Connecticut.
- November 6 - Daily practices begin at Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles. Daily vocal rehearsals are also held at the house of Kyung-Hee's, a friend of Rivers and the inspiration for "Buddy Holly".
