- Rivers Cuomo, Alone II: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo, liner notes

"Come to My Pod" is a duet between the characters Jonas and Maria, continuing their earlier conversation. Here, Jonas disregards his desire for true love and succumbs to his intense lust for Maria. Additionally, Maria is somewhat of a tease and makes it all too easy for Jonas to fall for her charm. He eventually makes love with Maria in her private "pod" on the spaceship. An early draft of the song implies that the titular "pod" was initially conceived as a futuristic analogue to a car[1] (Indeed, the handwritten lyrics feature the word "car" crossed out and replaced with "pod"). Subsequent drafts of the story appear to re-imagine the "pod" as living quarters instead.

The demo (and only known recording) of this track was leaked onto the internet by Cuomo in 2002, years prior to its official release on Alone II. A short song at one and a half minutes long, it features acoustic guitars, sparse drumming, and some synthesizer (Electronic Music Laboratories Electrocomp 101).

Audio

Lyrics

[MARIA:]
Come to my pod
There's no one there, we'll be alone
We can talk
And if you want to we'll get stoned
And relax
Have fun
In my pod

[JONAS:]
In your pod
No one knows the things we do
We'll get high
If you want to we'll sniff glue
And relax
Have fun
In your pod

[MARIA and JONAS:]
In my/your pod
There's no one there, we'll be alone
We can talk
And make love the whole night through
And relax
Have fun
In my/your pod

[MARIA:]
Now that we're left all alone, touch me and kiss me and love me.
