Today in Weezer History: 1/26/2008 - On this day in 2008, Rivers played in the Mia Hamm & Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge, scoring the first goal. Footage from this game was later edited with footage of Rivers training in the rain and old family photos to make the video for "Lover In The Snow", a demo that was released on the "Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo" album on 12/18/2007. Rivers recorded a voice over that told the story of his love of soccer, his inability to play it in adolescence due to his leg condition, and his difficult surgery after weezer's success that corrected his leg and allowed him to play soccer and other sports again. Rivers felt very honored to be invited to play in the game with his soccer heroes including Landon Donovan and celebrities like Tony Hawk. Scoring a goal for his team was the icing on the cake, and fortunately the moment was captured on video, and became the "Lover" video's climactic moment. -karl (@karlophone), 'Lover' video editor.
