"Without You" is a song from the 1970 album No Dice by British rock group Badfinger. The song was famously covered by singer Harry Nilsson in 1971. Rivers Cuomo has covered the song.

Overview

Rivers Cuomo released a solo cover of the song, based on the Harry Nilsson version (alongside a cover of Françoise Hardy's "Je Changerais d'Avis"), on his MySpace page in February of 2003, before later removing it. Cuomo rehearsed full-band covers of the song at SIR in March of that year. One of these recordings was leaked through the demo storefront on riverscuomo.com on November 7, 2020. The metadata for this version indicates that it was recorded on March 29 which, according to the Recording History, would indicate that Cuomo was accompanied by Andrew Scott, Patrick Pentland, and Chris Murphy of the band Sloan. Due to being a cover, the song was not made available for purchase on riverscuomo.com.

At the suggestion of producer Jake Sinclair, Cuomo would base the entire premise of Weezer's 14th album OK Human around the album Nilsson Sings Newman.

Lyrics

No, I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way the story goes
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows

No, I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
When I had you there, but then I let you go
And now it's only fair that I should let you know
What you should know

I can't live if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give anymore
I can't live if living is without you
I can't give, I can't give anymore

Well, I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way the story goes
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows

I can't live if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give anymore
I can't live if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give anymore
If living is without you
