Golden Nuggets was the tentative title of an 2001 collection of Weezer B-sides and unreleased songs. A compilation with this title would never be officially released.

Overview

On the subject of the album, Karl Koch writes:

Golden Nuggets is the title of an unreleased 2001 collection of Weezer b-sides and rarities, that was totally under wraps at the time of its assembly. The album was decided against and never went into production, but the artwork, liner notes and tracklisting was completed by Karl Koch. The existence of Golden Nuggets was revealed in 2003, however the title was not revealed then.

As time went on and the band accrued an ever expanding library of unreleased tracks and rarities, Golden Nuggets became an anachronism, although several of the rarities chosen for it have still not been released to the public or bootlegged as of 2016.

By 2008, the idea of an album of unreleased material had changed into Odds And Ends, later released as Death to False Metal in 2011. That collection was curated and chosen by Rivers (in a few cases modifying the existing recordings to prepare them for release) and bears little resemblance to the track list of Golden Nuggets.

Most of the recordings intended for the album were released at the time or have been released since the track listing was compiled in 2001, with the exception of "Blast Off!", a recording done during the August and September 1995 sessions at Electric Lady Studios, and "Superfriend", which was likely wiped at some point between 1995 and the compilation of Pinkerton Deluxe in 2009.[2]

The compilation's title is similar to Dusty Gems & Raw Nuggets, the second disc of Blue Deluxe, which released in 2004.
