05/04/05 MB '05 Tour: Day 10: Chicago - Aragon Ballroom

...reminder: check out the 'Star Map' Player - hear tracks from "Make Believe" plus hear "Bake Melieve"! Spread the love!

...The Aragon is a total holdover from the olden days of boomtown Chicago, a real survivor. The coolest thing is how the original decor has survived intact, though quite a bit dusty in places. Everything has a sort of Morrocan flavor, and if you squint you can sort of still see the couples dancing en masse to the jazz orchestras of the 20's, 30's and 40's. Its a great room to see a show in. The neighbrohood around the club has been far from elegant for many years, but for the first time in my memory, it seems to be looking up! The 2 harbingers: A Starbucks and a Borders Books! However, its still a bit edgy around there, as attested to by the police cruisers racing to a shooting down the street as we first rolled up to the ballroom.

Ringside delivered another tight performance tonight. Consistency is their middle name. Balthazar Consistency Getty? Weezer didnt change much of the script tonight, a few switches in the set, Brian lead vocals on Getchoo again, and more thick meaty weez rock for an audience that was happily losing its mind as far as i could tell.

In attendance tonight were Anuj, one of the original Webmasters of the RWA back in the day (RWA AKA weezer.net AKA the origins of weezer.com), and Dave, master of the WIDF boards. Suprisingly, neither of them have heard anything from Make Believe yet aside from the single. Now thats willpower!

And to the dude in line who handed me that sweet 3 disc Zeppelin boot to pass along to Scott... thanks man!

...looks like residents of Mexico will have their "Make Believe" a little early probably to avoid import editions flooding their market.

...interesting radio love: on 89x's "Catch of the Day", the new weezer track "Hold Me" was played!

...UK reviews: Q Magazine says "4/5" (right on!), while the notoriously difficult to please (read: out for blood) NME says 5/10. Whatever!
