"Rock Music" T-shirt, dark green, 1996

Description Images

Type: Classic T-shirt
Name(s): "Rock Music"[1]
Colorway: Dark green
Release date: 1996[1]
Type of release: Concert merchandise (Pinkerton Tour)
Licensed by: Unknown
Tag(s):

Variant 1: Giant by Tultex (L)
Variant 2: Tultex (XL)

Notes: The front of the shirt sports the classic Weezer logo (rendered in an incorrect font) in white. The back features an emblem with the text "ROCK MUSIC" surrounding a hand-drawn Flying =W=.

This shirt design was originally released by Winterland Productions in late 1994; the "Rock Music" emblem on the back of the shirt was shrunken by 50% for this re-release. No licensing or copyright text is present on this version of the shirt. It is known to have sold in two colorways: dark green, and dark blue—both colorways also present in the original Winterland releases.

This was the first non-promotional design to be released for the Pinkerton Tour, and is possibly the first merchandise design to be distributed by Giant Merchandising.

"If It's Too Loud" T-shirt, 1996

Description Images

Type: Ringer T-shirt
Name(s): "If It's Too Loud, Turn It Down", "If It's Too Loud"
Release date: Likely 1996 (see notes)
Type of release: Concert merchandise (Pinkerton Tour), mail-order (via Weezine)[2]
Licensed by: Unknown
Tag(s):

Variant 1: Giant (XL)

Notes: The front design of the shirt is a red, silver-outlined Flying =W= with extended left 'wings', and a silver Weezer logo (rendered in an incorrect font) below it. The back design of the shirt features a unique "ROCK MUSIC" emblem rendered in red, silver, and black, with the text "if it's too loud, turn it down" below it in silver, outlined red. The background of the shirt is white, and it has black ringers on the collar and the ends of the sleeves.

An identical design was previously sold by Winterland Productions in 1995. The original release's copyright text ("©1995 WEEZER") is preserved, unchanged, in this re-release.

The actual release year of this shirt is uncertain. The design of the tag appears to indicate a release around 1996/1997 and likely before 1998.[3] In issue #8 of Weezine, released in the fall of 1996, the design is available for mail-order.[2] It is possible that the shirt sold in this issue is backstock of the Winterland shirts; however, this same issue includes the first mention of the 1996 "Rock Music" T-shirts (another Winterland design re-release done by Giant), indicating that merchandise responsibilities had already been shifted to Giant.
