"Everybody Wants a Chance to Feel All Alone" (also known as "Furthest of Seas") is a 2002 Weezer demo. It is considered to be one of the earliest Make Believe demos and marks a considerable shift in songwriting for Rivers Cuomo. The song is categorized as an Office Demo (along with tracks like "I Can Love" and "The Story of My Life".)

Overview

"Everybody Wants a Chance to Feel All Alone", also known as RC #397, first appears in the Recording History as the song "Furthest of Seas". It is unknown what is different between the two songs. The first known appearance of the song is on October 9, 2002, at the S.I.R. studios in Los Angeles. Rivers was the only one present on the recording.

The song's next appearance is as "Everybody Wants a Chance to Feel All Alone", on November 1, 2002 at the SIR acoustic rehearsal. Also recorded here was an acoustic demo of "Private Message", which has been released online for free. Following this appearance, the song is frequently rehearsed by the band acoustically. It was even played live at the Hotel Cafe on November 3, but no recording is known to exist. It is believed that the version fans have is from the November 1 set.

Fan Reactions

Even several years after the song's leak, many Weezer fans still cite the song as one of their favorites.

Lyrics

I have brought you here tonight
To lay you out upon the stone
You're the girl that loves me best
Part the robe that hides your chest

Darlin', I think it's time that I let you go
And I don't feel any guilt as I touch your throat

You taught me how to sing my songs
What to drink and not to smoke
When to help and who to hate
All for love we suffocate

Everybody wants a chance to feel all alone
Hanging out here beside the old open road
Little one, you have done
All you could to keep me in your arms
Oh, but I watch as you choke on your tears

Everybody wants a chance to feel all alone

Suddenly, I feel so strong
I don't hear a single sound
Looking up towards the stars
I can see for very far

Everybody wants a chance to feel all alone
Hanging out here, the old open road
Little one, you have done
All you could to keep me in your arms
Oh, but I watch as you choke on your tears

Everybody wants a chance to feel all alone
