This song is part of the "Living in L.A." lineage of songs

"Living in L.A." is the fourth track from The Black Album. The song went by the title "This Girl" until shortly prior to the album's release.

Overview

"Living in L.A." was surprise released alongside the third song "High as a Kite", on February 21, 2019. The album's liner notes feature a verse with lyrics that were changed in the final release.

The bridge of the song appears to have been pulled from a 2003 Weezer demo called "Looking For a Fight," which was leaked in November, 2020.

Lyrics

I'm back in black
No one to hold my hand
It seems that we're together but alone
And now I hear the ticking of a clock
I know we're going down a slippery slope

I wonder what it's like out there
And my eyes are like far away spaceships
You are a sealed up door
There's gotta be more to our lives than this

This girl I like
I'm talking 'bout this girl I like
But I feel so lonely, feel so lonely
Yeah, I'm living in L.A
This girl I like
I'm talking 'bout this girl I like
But I feel so lonely, feel so lonely
Yeah, I'm living in L.A

We're fortune's fools when we took the bait
We sacrifice our lives for rock and roll
Je ne sais pas, burning at the stake
We never really had a choice at all

Looking for a fight, looking for a fight
And I'm still trying to figure out my life
Pretending we don't want each other
Alrighty now
Looking for a fight, looking for a fight
And the spider is sucking out my life
And I'm reaching out to touch her

Unused lyrics

The album liner notes, as well as the official YouTube video, contain unused lyrics in place of the "We're fortune's fools..." verse. There are also unused bridge lyrics found in the album's liner notes:

She’ll never say pa’ tell me what I want
We’ve always been a two way radio
Hallmark cards written by a sphinx
We sacrifice our lives for rock and roll
[...]
Looking for a fight, looking for a fight
Give his last name back and take mine
If she wants me to touch her
