...MB '05 Tour: Day 88: Foozer/Wee Fighters #5: Austin TX - Frank Erwin Center
Deep in the heart o' Texas...smellin' like a Texas rose...
For a few diehards, today started with a special morning pilgrimage to Lockhart, Texas, about 30 miles from Austin. Lockhart is where "Waiting For Guffman", said by certain tour managers to be the most important film of the 20th century, was filmed. After spotting some locations from the film, we then rushed back to Austin in time to hop on the busses and get over to the Frank Irwin Center, a medium sized roundish arena right in town.

C Minus' pre-weezer DJ set peaked with Eric B. and Rakim's "Microphone Fiend" before the lights went down and the orchestral strains of the intro music welcomed weezer to the room. It then seemed to me like it took a few songs to get the room energized, but once it was on, it was really on.

Thanks to local acoustic guitar player Mike for giving it his all when the band needed a hand! Today's 'Undone' started to evolve into unchartered territory, breaking things up in a new way. So far every show of the tour has brought out at least one fresh variation and/or suprise, and it looks like the show will continue to develop!

"...I am just home from the Weezer/Foo Fighters show in Austin, TX. It was super fantastically rockin'! (Awesome just doesn't seem to do it.)...Weezer performed spectacularly, but I completely expected it. The set list was perfect and the guys showed a lot of personality, variety, and enthusiasm on-stage. And the surprises were many, like switching up singing, having the volunteer on acoustic guitar, Rivers playing Island in the Sun. Pat rocked hard on lead guitar at one point! Thanks to all of you for coming to Austin...Here's to safe travels and plenty more rock." ---Jackie and Mac C.

Today the band did some interviews before the show. Rivers did an interview with AOL, the transcript of which should be made available online soon. Details to come when we have them. Meanwhile Scott and Brian did one with Austin's KROX, Then Brian interviewed with Austin's KHFI, while Scott and Pat teamed up for a talk (hosting "LA Lloyd’s Rock 30"?) with 99.5 KISS, which is actually aired in 17 states total including Texas.

...Some people have written in saying they've heard rumors on their local radio stations about the band 'breaking up'. This is an unfortunate result of the headline of this Mtv.com article, in which the band expressed its various views on the future. As no one is really sure what the future holds (which has always been the case, and really, is true for any band when you think about it), some things got said that are easy to take however you prefer. And, as it makes for more sensational "news" to say a band might be breaking up, thats the message that the article chose to run with. The real message is simply one of not knowing what the future holds - same as ever, really. In that same article you have Rivers talking about writing new songs: "I have a lot of ideas for songs, a lot of things I want to try, and a lot of new ways of writing I want to explore, and I'm very excited about trying all of that." In my opinion, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Que sera sera, and viva la Rock!
